Viele haben jedoch eine Gemeinsamkeit: die kleine Schleife an der Vorderseite der Unterwäsche. Die Wurzeln der Tradition stammen aus unelastischen Tagen, als Frauenunterwäsche nicht in bequemen, dehnbaren Stoffen produziert wurden. Damenslips wurden vorne mit einem Band, das durch Ösen gefädelt wurde, zusammengehalten und statt eines Knotens banden die Frauen eine Schleife, die Unterhose konnte also so fest angezogen werden, bis sie perfekt passte. Durch das binden des Bändchens entstand ganz einfach das niedliche Detail, welches noch eine weitere Funktion erfüllt: Früher mussten die Frauen früh und bei Dunkelheit aufstehen, die Schleife diente dabei als Orientierung, um den Damenslip richtig herum anzuziehen. Heutzutage hat das süße Detail nur noch einen dekorativen Zweck, jedoch sollte die Geschichte dahinter nicht vergessen werden.

The roots of this tradition date back to times when underwear was made from non-stretch fabrics. Women's briefs were fastened at the front with a ribbon threaded through eyelets. Instead of tying a knot, women formed a bow, allowing the garment to be adjusted for a perfect fit.

This detail also served a practical purpose: in the past, women often had to dress early in the morning and in low light. The bow acted as a guide to help put on the underwear the right way around.

Today, the bow is mainly decorative – but its history should not be forgotten.

The bow in history

Throughout history, bows have often been used as a decorative element on various items of clothing, including underwear. The origin of bows on women's briefs can be traced back to a variety of cultural and fashion influences.

In the Victorian era, bows were seen as a symbol of femininity, grace and elegance. They were used on garments – including undergarments – to create a romantic and playful look. At the time, elaborate details were highly valued, and bows added a touch of sophistication.

In the 1920s, during the flapper era, bows were also featured on underwear to enhance a feminine and glamorous style. Fashion in this period was defined by playfulness and extravagance, making bows a popular decorative element.

Over time, underwear designs have evolved, but the use of bows has remained. Today, they are primarily decorative and contribute to romantic, feminine or playful looks.
