Since when has nightwear actually existed?

In the past, people simply slept in underwear or long shirts. It wasn’t until the 17th century that specific nightwear began to develop. The women’s pajama, as we know it today, only became fashionable in the 19th century – inspired by the traditional pyjama from India. Nightgowns, however, have always remained popular because they are airy and comfortable.

Nightwear today: pure variety

Today, there’s nightwear for every taste:

  • Women’s pajamas: classic with pants and top, made of cotton or jersey – comfortable and practical.
  • Women’s pyjamas: often used synonymously with pajamas, but also interpreted in modern ways, for example with loose shorts or tops.
  • Women’s nightgowns: feminine, light, and especially pleasant in summer.

Whether simple, elegant, or playful – modern nightwear combines comfort with style.

Tariffs, trade barriers, and the need to reduce strategic dependencies – all these factors have intensified the call for European manufacturing in recent months. But it’s not just about logistics and politics: producing in Europe also ensures high social and environmental sustainability standards. Now, the Comazo Group is taking decisive action and opening its own underwear production facility in Bosnia this September.

“Many of our customers specifically ask for ‘Made in Europe.’ Our existing production sites in Croatia, Romania, and Bosnia are running at full capacity. That’s why we decided to open a new, larger factory in Bosnia,”

explains Niklas Stahlecker, Managing Director of the Comazo Group.

Ox Europe will operate on a production area of around 6,000 sqm. The machinery has already been installed, and the cutting and sewing departments began operations on September 1st. The first deliveries from Ox Europe are expected in October. By the end of the year, the company plans to employ 100 people, with the number expected to grow to 180 in the long term.

After an extensive search for a suitable location, the rapidly growing Comazo Group found what it was looking for at the beginning of the year. The textile industry has deep roots in the region, and it was easy to find well-trained professionals eager to return to textile production – the most important factor of all. In addition, Gradiška offers excellent logistical conditions.

Ox Europe specializes in underwear, base layers, lingerie, and shapewear. A major current focus lies on completing a thorough auditing process. By the end of the year, the company will already be BSCI, GOTS, and Fairtrade certified – a clear commitment to sustainable, European production.

In addition to products for the Comazo Group, Ox Europe will also produce for private label clients, other underwear companies, and retail and industry partners. The company operates independently with its own financial reporting. According to the Managing Director, the mission is clear:

“Ox Europe is here for all customers who value European production. Comazo is our first customer – but hopefully not the only one. We see great potential.”
